1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible Candyapple Red / Automatic / Air
1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible #2511. Originally shipped to Ray Hunt Ford in Daytona, Florida on 5/27/1968. Ordered in Candyapple Red with Black Deluxe Interior and White Power Top. Optioned with C6 Automatic Transmission and Air Conditioning.
Of the 4,450 Shelbys built in 1968, only 518 were GT500KR convertibles , about half the amount of GT500KR fastbacks built which totaled 1,053.
8T03R201825-02511 is an excellent and well-documented example that can be driven and enjoyed.
Body - #02511 retains nearly all of it's original born-with sheetmetal. The car shows an older professional repaint in it's original Candyapple Red with minor chips and imperfections you would expect for an older restoration. The car also retains it's original Shelby injection-molded fiberglass hood, nose panel, scoops, decklid and end caps..
Drivetrain - #2511 is powered by a date-code correct 428 Cobra Jet showing a block casting date of 8C27 (March 27,1968) but no VIN number is visible on the block or passenger side cylinder head. Cobra Jet C80E-N heads are fed by the correct Holley 4150 C80F-9510-AB Carburetor. The car is shifted by the correct C6 transmission with "R" servo with HD cast iron tail shaft. The correct 9" rear end sports the heavy duty "Nodular" case with date coding of 7M21 (December 12, 1967). KR-only ram air plenum, air cleaner with KR unique snorkel and rare KR only Start-Delay are all accounted for.
Interior - Black Deluxe Interior adorned with simulated woodgrain accents replaced the stainless metal accents of the 1967 models. 1968 Shelbys also received a full-length console which integrated Green Line Stewart Warner Oil and Amp Gauges, all of which are present. While fastback Shelbys received integrated roll bar and shoulder straps similar to 1967 models, the convertibles did receive a factory roll bar and shoulder straps were integrated into the rear quarter trim panel.
The car wears it's original Shelby American VIN tag on the lefthand inner-fender, VIN identification tag on the driver side dash and factory build "Buck" tag. Documentation includes a Marti Report, Ownership and build information from the Shelby Registry.
